Kristina smiled and followed him quietly, never pulling her hand away from his. When they reached the secret hallway she whispered “Are you sure we should do this?” but she kept going. She gasped at the view from up there and felt the chilly air “Oh my gosh, It’s so pretty up here” She heard the minute countdown faintly away

He smiled as she voiced concern about the stairs to the roof. It was one of those rules that was never really followed or enforced, at least not until something bad happened. He was even pretty sure the La Rosa kids had used it on more than one occasion. As Kristina looked around, he stood back and watched her. He had hoped that it would take her mind off things, and it appeared to be working. “Happy New Year,” he said.
